We Make Tapes & Discs was originally founded in 1979 (across the street from its current location) in Nashville, TN by Elvis Presley’s lead guitarist, Scotty Moore. The company has quite a legacy and is still known around Nashville and elsewhere as just “We Make Tapes,” as that’s what the company mainly did for a couple decades: duplicating cassette and VHS tapes. With the shift to discs accelerating in the 1990’s – and not just in the music business – the company went through two ownership changes until business executives, Sam Paris and his wife Susan purchased the company six years ago. It’s been CDs and DVDs ever since at We Make Tapes & Discs.

Ownership Changes and Growth

Sam invested significantly in state-of-the-art equipment, new people, a new location, and breathed new life into a company that once only duplicated music tapes. Says Sam, “While we still do some tape duplication, repairs, and transfers of video to DVD’s, our focus now is obviously on CDs and DVDs which account for over 95% of our business. Eventually we’ll drop the “tapes” part of our name, but we’ve earned such a good reputation and name recognition around town and elsewhere, that we decided to keep it at least until our 30th anniversary next year. And we’re growing not just in music and film – but also in lots of industries in and out of Nashville – such as education & self-help, ministries, and other businesses that need data, software, audio, and video duplication, too. We’ve grown very steadily the past few years and expect that to continue.

Customers obviously have a lot of choices for their disc duplication, replication, and packaging needs, but We Make Tapes & Discs continues to prove that you can actually get great service and quick turnaround at very reasonable prices – highly competitive with the big duplicators elsewhere. Says Sam, “We are always price competitive, which is essential, but new customers find us every week – people who are simply tired of the lousy service and hollow commitments they’ve gotten elsewhere. We’re happy to oblige and I believe we consistently demonstrate the highest level of service in the marketplace. During business hours (M-F 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Central Time), no one calling us gets a phone message: they get a real person who can help. We’re known for our speedy turnaround, but also make sure never to over-promise a client. Rather we like to beat their expectations. We want repeat business and are happy to do orders of any size, no minimums, which is highly unusual. That’s been our success formula so far and we believe it will be in the future as well. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt to be highly visible on Music Row in the Music City, either!”
